The Online Professional Certificate in Therapeutic Practice with Sex Offenders has been developed to provide counsellors, psychotherapists and other practitioners such as psychologists, probation officers, social workers and project workers with the necessary knowledge, skills and tools to work therapeutically with this client group. The course also prepares practitioners to work with partners of such individuals and with couples, where one party is at risk of sexual offending.

The Online Professional Certificate in Therapeutic Practice with Sex Offenders has been developed to provide counsellors, psychotherapists and other practitioners such as psychologists, probation officers, social workers and project workers with the necessary knowledge, skills and tools to work therapeutically with this client group. The course also prepares practitioners to work with partners of such individuals and with couples, where one party is at risk of sexual offending.

Joining requirements:

The pre-requisite for joining the certificate course is a recognised diploma in counselling, or a professional qualification and experience of working with individuals who pose a sexual risk, or completion of the StopSO COFRA 121 training programme.

Course dates and times:

Sun 26 Sept 2021 – Introduction to counselling clients who pose a sexual risk (including risk assessment, confidentiality and reporting matters) and related emotional issues for practitioners: (plus Reflective Process Group)

Sun 3 Oct 2021 – Attachment, trauma and mental health issues

Sun 10 Oct 2021 – Working with neuroatypical and adolescent offenders: (plus Reflective Process Group)

Sun 17 Oct 2021 – Paedophiles (offending or non-offending)

Sun 24 Oct 2021 – Power, control and paraphilias, sexual assault and rape: (plus Reflective Process Group)

Sun 31 Oct 2021 – Internet offending and sexual addiction

Sun Nov 7 2021 – Working with female offenders: (plus Reflective Process Group)

Sun 14 Nov 2021 – Legal and child protection systems

Sun 21 Nov 2021 – Working with non-offending partners and family members (plus Reflective Process Group)

Sun 28 Nov 2021 – Couple work: existential and transpersonal issues: (plus Reflective Process Group)

Each Session will run from 11 am to 4 pm (with an hour’s lunch break) an additional one-hour reflective process group will also run on six of the Sundays, from 4pm to 5pm.

Course completion:

Examination will be via students completing an on-going reflective learning log of not under 2000 words, and a viva conducted by telephone or Zoom. Completion of all of the 10 days, the learning log and the viva is necessary in order to be awarded the Professional Certificate.   

Cost:

The cost of the Certificate is £1500, which can be paid in full or in 3 monthly installments. (Members of the StopSO Therapist Network receive a £100 discount)
