The Online Professional Certificate in Therapeutic Practice with Sex Offenders has been developed to provide counsellors, psychotherapists and other practitioners such as psychologists, probation officers, social workers and project workers with the necessary knowledge, skills and tools to work therapeutically with this client group. The course also prepares practitioners to work with partners of such individuals and with couples, where one party is at risk of sexual offending.
Workshop Description
The Online Professional Certificate in Therapeutic Practice with Sex Offenders has been developed to provide counsellors, psychotherapists and other practitioners such as psychologists, probation officers, social workers and project workers with the necessary knowledge, skills and tools to work therapeutically with this client group. The course also prepares practitioners to work with partners of such individuals and with couples, where one party is at risk of sexual offending.
Joining requirements:
The pre-requisite for joining the certificate course is a recognised diploma in counselling, or a professional qualification and experience of working with individuals who pose a sexual risk, or completion of the StopSO COFRA 121 training programme.

Sunday Oct 22: Female offenders – Antounette Philippides
Saturday Oct 28: Working with non-abusing partners and family members – Dr Andrew Smith
Sunday Oct 29: The legal/child protection systems related to sexual offending – Mike Sheath
Saturday Nov 4: Couple work, existential and transpersonal issues – Dr Andrew Smith
Sunday Nov 5: Internet offenders and sexual addiction – Mike Sheath
The course runs from 11 to 1 and 2 till 5 on Saturdays. Saturdays are 1 hour longer than Sundays, as there is a process group, facilitated by Andrew, from 4 till 5. On Sundays the course runs from 11 till 1 and 2 to 4.
Course completion:
Examination will be via students completing an on-going reflective learning log of not under 2000 words, and a viva conducted by telephone or Zoom. Completion of all of the 10 days, the learning log and the viva is necessary in order to be awarded the Professional Certificate.
Cost:
The cost of the Certificate is £1500, which can be paid in full or in 3 monthly installments. (Members of the StopSO Therapist Network receive a £100 discount)
