Workshop Description

Topics

When do I have to report my client?
What if I am told about a serious crime?
What should I do when the police ask for records?
How does Government policy to mandate disclosure by professionals affect therapists?

A two-hour training and development session for therapists who may encounter clients disclosing offending, either as victims, perpetrators or both. Should you tell the police or social services? What about when the police ask you to hand over your notes or records? Should you tell your client?

As therapist, this is a fraught and uncomfortable area. However, we need to be aware of our legal and moral obligations. At StopSO, we wish to open the conversation in a safe environment where we can explore our understanding and expectations.

Through a combination of training and scenario planning, with plenty of time for questions and discussion throughout, you can gain an understanding of the legal and regulatory framework, improve confidence, and know that you are doing the right thing legally and ethically.
