Cath Cox – A victim focused approach to tackling online CSAE
Cath will talk about how we as professionals can shift the approach from an offender based approach to tackling investigative leads for online CSAE, to a victim based approach. This approach focuses on the children behind the images – helping society understand that there are no such things as ‘victimless’ or ‘image only’ crimes. Humanising the children in the imagery seeks to have a deterrent effect, helping people who may be struggling with their own thoughts and behaviours, who may be impacted by an awareness that CSAM consumption supports a business model where more children are abused to meet demand. What impact could this have on society, on families of offenders, and on us as we collectively seek to shine a light on CSAM offending, and recognise it for what is truly is.
