COFRA PARTNERS COURSE – StopSO Training for 2022

Compassion Focused-Risk Aware PARTNERS

1-to-1 Therapeutic safeguarding programme for helping non-offending partners play their part in identifying and managing signs of risk to children, delivered over Zoom

StopSO is offering an exciting addition to COFRA 121. COFRA PARTNERS is an online two-day therapeutic safeguarding programme to help partners of individuals who pose a sexual risk to play their part in identifying and managing risk to children. The programme is also designed to help partners come to terms with a loved one’s arrest, sexual offending, and the impact of this. The programme also assists partners to make informed choices about their future. The course is for counsellors, therapists and other relevant practitioners. COFRA PARTNERS consists of ten 90-minute sessions, and brings together compassionate mindfulness, strengths-focused approaches and  psychoeducational safeguarding materials . COFRA PARTNERS offers a structured, yet flexible, easy to follow way of working with partners of individuals convicted or accused of sexual offending and those who have not offended but who may be at risk of doing so, or those who are displaying problematic sexual behaviour. Much of the programme material is also relevant for relatives and other carers of children. The programme can be delivered as a whole, or the contents can be used piecemeal to augment the therapist’s/worker’s practice. The training will be conducted by the author of COFRA 121 and COFRA PARTNERS, Dr Andrew Smith.

The course will be delivered online, via zoom (see below for dates). The COFRA PARTNER programme manual (featuring a practitioner pack and a resource pack) will be emailed to you beforehand, as the training takes you through each session and explains how to facilitate areas of therapeutic and safeguarding exploration and exercises with clients, including exploring issues and challenges which may arise in actual practice. The resource pack consists of explanatory material and exercises for each of the 10 sessions, that you can photocopy and use with clients, at your discretion.

During the current Covid 19 crisis, practitioners can, if necessary, deliver COFRA PARTNERS to clients via video link as course information and exercises can be emailed to the client before each session.

The training course is available to individuals with a recognised therapy/counselling diploma, who have significant experience of working with sexual offenders, and who want to develop their practice with partners.
